2/27/2010 - With power out in the South Side dorms, what was "usual" for a Friday evening got turned upside-down.

The girls in Macomber dorm, for instance, found their way last night into the Macomber's living room for a spontaneous slumber party in front of their fireplace, which had been "cozy-ing up" the place since the afternoon.

We hope to see the power back on ac...   View
2/27/2010 - On April 19th, five members of the Holderness School community will be participating in the Boston Marathon. Their goals are threefold: complete the circuit, raise money and awareness for cancer research, and honor Sean Glew, who died last summer after a brave battle with cancer. "Team Glew" includes runners Mr. Carrigan, Mr. Skelley, Ms. Cirone, Ms. Magnus, Mr. Houseman a...   View
2/26/2010 - The mission statement posted on the National History Day website (www.nhd.org) states that "National History Day teaches essential historical literacy that motivates students to secure the future of democracy." Students in Ms. Moses' History II class are among a group of more than half a million students across the US working toward that goal, creating a project around thi...   View
2/25/2010 - This afternoon, in an epic battle of good against old, the boys JV hockey team took on members of the faculty in a fun and competitive game in the Alfond Arena. With several faculty members boasting college and even professional ice time, and a JV squad motivated to show their mentors how it's done, it was a game to remember.

Nobody quite knows the final score of t...   View
2/24/2010 - Yesterday, Mr. Teaford's 11th grade English classes were outside learning how to build a fire. The purpose was twofold. First, from a literary perspective, one needs to know about fire-building to truly understand the plight of Christopher McCandless - the real-life protagonist in Jon Krakauer's "Into the Wild," the book currently on the radar for all junior English classe...   View
2/24/2010 - And the word for the day is snow. A winter storm came in last night, and dumped wet snow on us all day, forcing Mr. Galvin to cancel the majority of today's games and causing everyone to bundle up as they moved from class to class.

The weather did provide great packing snow for a quick snowman (or is it a bull?) out on the Quad in front of Weld.

Happy snow!...   View
2/23/2010 - Yesterday was a Head's Holiday for students, but faculty and staff time in the morning and afternoon discussing how they might make positive changes in the climate at Holderness. 2/22/2010 - Head's Holiday! Students woke up this morning to hear the bell ringing from Chapel, indicating that today would be one of those sleep-in, catch-up-on-homework, hang-out-with-friends, play-games, read-ahead, and enjoy-the-day kind of days that happen three times a year at Holderness. Head's Holidays give everyone a break from the regular schedule, and help re-energize us fo...   View
