2/9/2010 - Early Mardi Gras!

While Mardi Gras doesn't REALLY begin until next Tuesday, we're going to be away early next week on the extended weekend following Winter Parents' Weekend. As a result, the kitchen pulled out all the Mardi Gras stops, trying hard to fatten us up in preparation for Fat Tuesday.

2/7/2010 - Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The contest begins in individual classrooms, and goes from there to a school-wide competition before moving on to regional, state, and finally the nationals in Washington, DC.

The Holderness School TODAY Group sponsored a Lakes Region "Glow Dance." The poster which went out to all the schools read: "This is going to be the hottest party of the New Year! 2/7/2010 - Happy Chinese New Year!

Sunday night Mrs. Peck and I hosted 45 students, faculty, and family at our house for a Chinese New Year celebration. 2/6/2010 - Last night at family-style dinner, members of Ms. Lewis's History I class hosted an Italian Renaissance-style dinner in the dining hall. Students dressed up "in attire typical of the Renaissance" and acted as storytellers, dancers, musicians, and servants for the rest of the school.

2/4/2010 - Yesterday, thanks to the recent snow, the Holderness Nordic skiers hosted another Lakes Region race, with both the boys and girls teams turning in some great performances. Mr. van der Linde charted out the course, forcing all racers up a steep hill not long after the start. It made for a challenging opening to the race, but a great picture.
