11/16/2009 - This morning in Chapel, we celebrated the baptism of Benjamin Michael Lewis, son of Tyler and Renee Lewis, two faculty members at Holderness. As Mr. Lewis reminded us at the opening of the service, "it takes a village to raise a child," and Father Weymouth involved the whole of the congregation in answering the spiritual questions posed of the parents and godparents as Ben...   View
11/14/2009 - The weather for the most part held off during the 14th Tabor/Holderness Day, held this year at Tabor Academy. The folks at Tabor were great hosts, providing delicious food, wonderful facilities, and a high level of competition. Unfortunately, they came out ahead this year by a score of 7-1, but all of the games were close, with most decided by a single goal.

It was...   View
11/13/2009 - Mr. Galvin took us through a spirited assembly today, from a great video from the Improv Troupe through to a rousing HOL [clap] -DER [clap] -NESS [clap, clap, clap, clap] cheer led by the senior leaders (Mr. Ford was out of voice today). We look forward to tonight's events: Tabor Day dinner, a spirit assembly in Hagerman, milk and cookies by teams, and the annual bonfire.<...   View
11/13/2009 - A spirited senior class!

After practices today, we went to dinner and sat with our teams. The faculty did all the jobs so that all the students could enjoy dinner together. The kitchen prepared a fabulous pre-Tabor Day meal which included blue bread, blue ice cream, and fish! Following dinner we enjoyed over an hour of skits and videos made by the different teams. ...   View
11/12/2009 - This is Spirit Week at Holderness, as we approach the fun and competition of Tabor Day on Saturday, our final regular-season games against our greatest rival.

Today, we modified the dress code for "Dress Like Tabor Day." It's a spirited and fun play on stereotypes, as Tabor dresses like "country hicks" and we dress like "preppies."

Above, the folks from West...   View
11/12/2009 - Fire Pit!

It's a tradition for each senior class to raise money for a Senior Gift to be presented to the school upon their graduation. It's a way to give back to the school, but also to establish a link between our newest alumni and Holderness that will hopefully extend into the future.

Two nights ago, the Class of 2010 expressed their appreciation for the ...   View
11/10/2009 - Holderness field hockey, past and present!

Field Hockey was in the air Saturday. Several members of the Holderness family were in attendance at the Dartmouth-Cornell game. Pictured are recent graduates Sophia Schwartz and Jenna Stearns (Stearns just out of her goalie pads) with faculty member Peter Durnan. Not pictured are Kelly Hood, '08, who recently broke the ...   View
11/10/2009 - Unpacking Shakespeare at Holderness!

Today Dr. Charles Forker lectured Mr. Barton's AP Composition class about Shakespearean sonnets. Dr. Forker's expertise is well documented (one might want to google his name), and his insights into the content and structure of two love poems was nothing short of inspiring. Focusing on the mutability of all things (in this case ...   View
11/10/2009 - Dance the Cupid Shuffle!

After dinner Tuesday night, TODAY (Together in Our Diversity And Youth) invited students and faculty downstairs to the Wallace Center to learn a dance, "The Cupid Shuffle." Tyquan Ekejiuba, Salamarie Frazier, and Kiara Boone taught us how to do the dance. After lots of practice, laughter, and a few missteps, everyone managed to dance in uni...   View
11/9/2009 - All Saint's Day, one week late!

Last week the former Bishop of New Hampshire and honorary trustee the Rt. Rev. Douglas Theuner was going to share a sermon on All Saint's Day. Because of the Head's Holiday, he postponed his visit one week. Today Bishop Theuner performed the Eucharist and presented another one of his thoughtful sermons about how all of us are potenti...   View
