11/8/2009 - Indian Summer at Holderness!
After more than a week of below freezing mornings followed by cool afternoons, it was a relief for us today as we enjoyed temperatures in the high 60's. The Quad was busy with pick up football games, student throwing lacrosse balls and frisbees, and sitting or studying in the sun. It was a perfect Sunday to relax and enjoy being in warm ... View |

11/6/2009 - It's a treat when an alum comes back on campus to share her experiences; it's a gift when she comes back and shares her courage and wisdom. Today at assembly, Laura Cote '09 came back to address the school about the challenges she faced over the past several years struggling with an eating disorder. The story she told was sobering, as she overcame serious physical and emot... View |

11/5/2009 - Holderness is a close and warm community, and we show it often and loudly. Yesterday afternoon when walking into Weld for lunch, everyone was greeted with a big sign celebrating Vice President Abby Alexander's birthday. Needless to say, she was as embarrassed by the sign as she was by all of the hugs and congratulations she got over the course of lunch.

11/5/2009 - Leadership at Holderness
Mr. Ford is Director of Residential Life and heads up our student leadership program at Holderness. He was also in the spotlight Thursday night at Chapel, where he spoke about what it takes to be a good leader and a successful member of the Holderness community.
The spring ballot by which we choose our leaders each year asks everyone ... View |

11/4/2009 - Dr. Mumford's biology classes are currently engaged in a phenology project, the scientific study of periodic biological phenomena. Over the past month, several classes have gathered data about when various local species of deciduous trees change color and drop their leaves. At this point, the classes are combining their data using Excel, learning the finer points of adding... View |

11/3/2009 - In response to a proposal from student leaders earlier in the year, Holderness recently changed the times that breakfast is offered in the dining hall from 6:45 AM - 7:15 AM to 7:15 AM - 8:00 AM. The switch was made possible by the flexibility of the kitchen staff and housekeeping staff, and will hopefully promote good sleep habits and even better nutrition among the stude... View |

11/2/2009 - Last night at around 10 PM, the Chapel bell rang, announcing a "Head's Holiday." Today, classes and athletic practices are canceled (though we look forward to the girls varsity soccer game at 3:30 PM!).
Given the sickness going around, as well as the many demands on students and faculty during the fall, today provides everyone with an opportunity to rest, relax, ca... View |

11/1/2009 - Ni Hao from Beijing!
Tyler Lewis and I are on the last stage of our Asian tour and are now in Beijing, where it is currently snowing! Earlier this week, when I was in Shanghai, Mr. Lewis enjoyed a wonderful visit with Kangdi Wang's family in Changchung.
Saturday night in Beijing, Ruhao Xin and Duruo Wang's families treated us to a fabulous meal at the Roast... View |

10/31/2009 - Ceramicist Hideaki Miyamura was at Holderness yesterday afternoon to talk with students and faculty about his show, "Form and Surface," which opened last night in the Edwards Art Gallery. Mr. Miyamura's works come to us by special arrangement with the Pucker Art Gallery in Boston, and they are stunningly beautiful, in their form, colors, and patterns.
As Mr. Nicola... View |

10/31/2009 - This morning, Dean of Students Kathy Weymouth met with a number of parents as part of our series of "Fireside Chats" with members of the school's administration. Ms. Weymouth covered a number of topics, from lessons learned last year while she was on sabbatical, to Community Service Day, to the many events on campus this past week (i.e., evacuation and lockdown drills, Hal...
