The Head's Photos of the Day provides a window into the life of our school, and are posted daily during the school year by Mr. Peck (Head of School) or one of his helpers in the Communications Department. Come by and check them out, and see the exciting things happening daily at Holderness!

4/28/2009 - Several times each year, the federal government delivers a large amount of surplus food to the local Sears parking lot. From there, trucks and vans arrive and volunteers help divide and load the food into vehicles destined for food kitchens and non-profit organizations across Grafton County, NH.
Yesterday morning after Chapel, Ms. Pedrin-Nielson and Mr. Amerman org... View |

4/28/2009 - Spring Head's Holiday!
Today I tried something a little different with the Head's Holiday. I called it at 9:35 after first period classes. It is going to be 90 degrees today, and in an attempt to surprise folks, I announced a 24 hour head's holiday. We have a reduced study hall tonight 9:00-10:00, and classes start tomorrow morning at 9:35.

4/28/2009 - An English Head's Holiday Class!
Each spring, I try to find the best possible day for a Head's Holiday, where the weather is perfect and there are not too many conflicts. This spring has been terribly difficult to find the right day.
This morning I was bemoaning my challenge to Margot Moses, who suggested a mid-morning head's holiday and then Jory Macomber re... View |

4/27/2009 - It was a very student-involved Chapel service this morning, including student readers, a personal statement from Laney Hayssen '09, a list of student thank-yous and petitions during Community Prayers, and a performance by the Holderness School Singers ("I am a Pilgrim").
Holderness comes from a rich Episcopal tradition, yes, but more than anything, we welcome, supp... View |

4/25/2009 - Dr. Mumford, our Sustainability Coordinator, helped us celebrate Earth Day, Earth Week, and Arbor Day during assembly yesterday with a brief clip from the movie Earth and a presentation of our Green Cup Challenge plaque to Mr. Peck. While we didn't reduce our energy use as much as we'd hoped during the Challenge, we were up against some extra square footage in the new Weld... View |

4/24/2009 - Last night, the cast and crew of Chicago (this year's spring musical) hit the stage in front of a small but appreciative audience for their dress rehearsal. The exciting production showcases that talents of our student body (and a few faculty too!), from the leads to the chorus to the crew. It also helps tell a humorous but meaningful story about how fickle our soci... View |

4/23/2009 - The weather held out long enough yesterday afternoon for Holderness to host its annual Road Race, involving ten New England independent schools (including Proctor, New Hampton, Tilton, Gould, SMS, Fryeburg, KUA, Phillips Andover, and Phillips Exeter) in early-season competition. The first race of the season featured a 20-mile route that winds along 175 and 49, starting at ... View |

4/22/2009 - Team photo day happens every season, as teams take a break usually in the middle of practice for a quick photo before heading back to the courts, fields, rink, slopes, or gym. Yesterday, a photographer from New England Athletic Team Photos (www.neatphotosne.com) was on campus moving quickly from team to team, getting formal shots for the yearbook and posterity, and - more ... 4/21/2009 - It's been a while since the conclusion of field hockey season (with our varsity team making the NEPSAC tournament for the 17th time in a row!), but some great news recently came back from the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association).
Three Holderness students (the tri-captains of the field hockey team) - Allison Robbins '09, Sophia Schwartz '09, and Jenna ... View |

4/20/2009 - This morning, the school community came together at the Outdoor Chapel for a pre-celebration of Earth Day. Ms. van der Linde's sobering yet hopeful message about humankind's continuing relationship with the earth and its creatures was particularly hard-hitting in the context of the natural beauty of the morning.
Earth Day is on Wednesday. Take time out to think abo... View |
