2/13/2009 - Last night, the chorus and band under the directino of maestro Mr. Lockwood put together a great show built around the Beatles. Favorites included "Hey, Jude," "Yesterday," "A Little Help from My Friends," and "Blackbird" (among others) and helped to set the tone for the weekend (the Parents' Auction's theme this year is "Flower Power").

Don't despair if you missed ...   View
2/12/2009 - "Wellies" in Wintertime!

Yesterday's sunshine turned to rain showers today (I thought it was April, not February showers). Fittingly all our students changed their snow gear to rain gear.

This somewhat dreary winter day was brightened by the girls, many of whom wore their very colorful "Wellie" rain boots. Tonight after dinner I asked all the girls wearing "...   View
2/11/2009 - The frog pond sits near the main entrance to Holderness School. Every winter, it becomes a center of activity for faculty kids as well as students, thanks to Mrs. Macomber and several other faculty members, who clear off the snow, set up lights, and - this year - even provide skates on a loaner basis to anyone who wants them.

Parents, pick up a pair of loaner skate...   View
2/11/2009 - Early Quad "Sunbathers"

This winter we experienced one of the coldest and snowiest January on record. Between December 28th and February 8th, the temperature never went above 32 degrees. In fact last week the temperature was 10 degrees below zero with a high of 5 degrees.

Needless to say, today when the high reached almost 55 degrees, we were all a bit giddy....   View

2/9/2009 - Trustee and former Bishop of New Hampshire the Rt. Rev. Bishop Theuner was at Holderness this morning for our Monday chapel service. With Rev. Weymouth away on sabbatical this year, several members of the larger Holderness community have stepped in over the past several months to perform the Eucharist and provide us with some different and powerful perspectives.

2/8/2009 - Valentine's Day Dance!

Because of the timing of Parents' Weekend this year we enjoyed an early Valentine's Day Dance on Saturday evening. Most of the ladies showed up dressed creatively and elegantly. Many of the boys showed up dressed in jeans and sweats. Nonetheless a fun time was enjoyed by all, and it was a dance to be remembered.

Pictured here was a par...   View
2/7/2009 - The lip synch - the last and biggest event in Winter Carnival - was held last night in a new venue, the Hagerman Auditorium. Dorms lined up music ranging from Grease to Britney Spears (and everywhere and anywhere in between) as well as costumes, from glow sticks taped to black body suits to cowboy outfits. It was a great time, and (generally) a real tribute to the creativi...   View
2/5/2009 - Last night's Barton Olympics provided entertainment, competition, amazement, and a great deal of laughter. Competitors from different dorms went head-to-head in three events: an M&M carry competition (carry an M&M in a spoon with your mouth, while crawling on all fours), a Saltine eating contest (in which the winner was the first to whistle a few bars of "Twinkle, Twinkle"...   View
