11/5/2008 - Late yesterday afternoon and early evening many seniors and faculty went to vote at the Holderness Town Hall. Upon arriving we were greeted by folks with signs supporting their favorite candidates, Republicans and Democrats. We were delighted to see that one of those sign-bearers was our own Bruce Barton. Pictured here is Mr. Barton with an eclectic mix of the various ...   View
11/4/2008 - Yesterday at lunch, student leaders - including Jake Manoukian, Laney Hayssen, and Allison Robbins - were collecting student and faculty votes for the presidential election. In this mock election (based on an idea from Jonathan Bass), electoral votes will be distributed based on each dorm's popular vote. The results will be released soon. Above, Jake Manoukian and Lane...   View
11/1/2008 - This past Saturday night over sixty students and faculty traveled down to New Hampton to support our football team as they played the Huskies under the lights. Even in the cold, the fans cheered on the Holderness Bulls as they competed in an exciting game. Shown here are some of the students that traveled down and braved the chilly night; Juliet Dalton 11, Dylan Zimmer...   View
10/31/2008 - "Let's see if we can make the students smile this Halloween," was the challenge that Sandy Hobbs gave her colleagues in housekeeping yesterday. As the above costumes demonstrate, the housekeeping folks certainly succeeded, and set a perfect tone (not to mention a high bar) for tonight's Halloween dinner. Pictured here are Sandy, Joan Parris, Annette Flanders, and Pam B...   View
10/31/2008 - Happy Halloween! Tonight the Weld dining room was filled with an eclectic and creative mix of student and faculty costumes. Faculty and staff did all the jobs so that every student could immerse themselves in the fun evening, and was it ever a memorable event. Pictured here prior to dinner, at my table, is Admiral Halsey (James Halsey) and the Niles Navy. ...   View
10/30/2008 - As a school with a strong snow-sports program, the first snow of the season is generally met with excitement and certainly familiarity. For some members of our community, however, it's met with wonder. Mr. Magalhaes, who hails from Brazil, had his first encounter with the white stuff yesterday, to the amusement of his spouse and others. ...   View
10/29/2008 - Every fall, dozens of representatives come on campus to talk to our seniors (and sometimes a few juniors) about the opportunities available at their colleges. It's an important part of the college process, a challenging and sometimes anxiety-inducing reality for our seniors, but one navigated with the aid of our able college counseling staff overseen by Chris Day. Abov...   View
10/28/2008 - This year departments at Holderness are, on a rotating basis, spending a morning observing their colleagues in other areas, looking for ideas and opportunities to improve their teaching and their students' learning. Yesterday morning, members of the math department attended other classes, finding interesting parallels in the material presented, in classroom styles, and...   View
10/27/2008 - With Halloween just around the corner, one of this past weekend's activities involved carving out pumpkins. What became a spirited competition between dorms produced some "interesting" (if not scary) results, as I hope you'll agree. Pictured working on their pumpkins are Paul Clark '10, Casey Powell '11, Lily Ford '12, Sam Leech '11, Dillon Corkran '10 and Scott Nelson...   View
10/26/2008 - Last night in the Hagerman auditorium, hypnotist Steve Taubman practiced his craft on the students of Holderness. Whatever your take on hypnotism, the show certainly kept the crowd entertained, as hypnotized students - in spite of themselves (?) - did some pretty wild stuff. Thanks to Dr. Taubman for again keeping us amazed and entertained. ...   View
