9/13/2008 - In addition to the outdoor "movie on the quad," Saturday night featured a Chuseok fest. Mrs. Peck and I enjoyed having more than fifty students and faculty up to our cottage to the first day of Chuseok (which officially begins tomorrow). Chuseok is very similar to the American Thanksgiving in that it celebrates family and great food. As the weekend photos show, we enjoyed ...   View
9/12/2008 - Mr. Durnan framed his honor code chapel around the following words from Matthew (5:6): "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness." In his appeal to live honorable lives at Holderness, Peter Durnan used several stories involving alumni/ae and seniors as examples. "To be at Holderness is to be called to live honorably." We all left feeling inspired to live u...   View
9/12/2008 - It was a great and full first assembly this morning, as students and faculty shared information about art opportunities, cultural events, and weekend activities with the assembled community. Read and see more about it inside the site under "News and Events." Check out Ms. Devine's Improv Group's first movie as well (and the first movie posted to the new website)!...   View

9/10/2008 - Last night we enjoyed our first advisee/advisor dinner. The kitchen prepared delectable "take out" meals for all the dorm parents, which gave all of us a chance to touch base with our advisees about the first few days of school and touch base on key opening week issues. Mrs. Peck and I were fortunate to be joined by our and Mr. Barton's advisees: Adam Sapers, Ben Osborne, ...   View

9/9/2008 - Tonight we experienced our first family-style dinner in the newly renovated Weld. We were delighted how quiet and spacious it was, how well everything flowed, and we all enjoyed having families (spouses and children) once again join us in this lovely new facility. Oh, and the dinner was fabulous too! Pictured here are a few of the students at Mr. and Mrs. Lewis' table: Jam...   View
9/9/2008 - Last night at dinner, Ms. Moses turned over the planning and execution of this week's post-dinner activities to President Jake Manoukian. Jake stood up and announced that Monday night, the whole school would be "stoopin it" in front of Webster and Niles. Needless to say the Quad was alive with fun music, frisbees, and lots of activity. Pictured here is Jake and three "stoo...   View
9/8/2008 - We begin our chapel program each year in Hagerman to set expectations and prepare ourselves properly for entering "sacred space" together as a community. Our acting chaplain Ms. Fischer asked students and faculty to "show up," both in body and in spirit, to quiet, thoughtful reflection about issues beyond the day-to-day. Above, Ms. Fischer speaks in chapel, illuminated by ...   View
