9/7/2008 - This weekend began with every class meeting on Saturday morning, followed by practices for all the teams. Saturday night we were hoping to have an outdoor "movie on the quad." Thanks to the tail end of Hurricane Hanna, the outdoor movie was changed at the last minute to a "hurricane dance party" in lower Hagerman. Most of the school fit into a very small space to enjoy dan...   View
9/6/2008 - This morning, we met for our first academic classes, going through all seven blocks in rapid succession. The purpose of this morning's classes was to provide a brief introduction to the topics to be studied and establish teachers' expectations for the class. We begin with the "normal" school schedule on Monday morning. Above, Ms. Dahl welcomes her ninth grade English class...   View
9/5/2008 - Tonight we enjoyed the first barbecue of the year. It is a great time for students to informally connect over a delicious meal prepared by the kitchen. A goal we have each fall is to learn every student's name by November. For the second year in a row at dinner check in, Mr. Cirone knew every student's name; and classes haven't even started! Five new students with Mr. Ciro...   View

9/3/2008 - And the 130th academic year at Holderness is underway. We welcomed the new students to campus today, and student leaders and faculty were there to greet them, help them through the line at the bookstore, and carry their loads into their new rooms. It was great to see the campus come alive again with new hopes, new talents, and new possibilities. Welcome! Above, the Blaus p...   View
9/2/2008 - Today I was fortunate to begin my day with the new student leaders in the new East dining room in Weld. I asked for their support in meeting the challenges of the new school year. I told them that the seniors actions, the tone they set, and the things they consider important will in many ways define the kind of year we have. The leaders had a full day of discussions with M...   View
